In 1888, the celebrated Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska and Count Bozenta sought peace on an isolated ranch they named Arden after the forest in As You Like It. Though the star sold and parceled her beloved retreat in 1906, the land's rich history continued when Lulu and Will Howell transformed a former land caretaker’s cabin into their own cozy home in 1915.
